You’ll work flat with an easy to remember 4-row repeat, then block, fold in half and seam along one edge with a crochet seam to create neck opening (schematic provided).

I can’t lie. I avoid mattress stitch any chance I can, and I love to work some crochet chains, so this is a win-win seam for me. Plus, it’s very easy to pull through an extra long loop when you think you’ve reached the right spot, and try it on!
