Description
Be one with the sea as you knit this beautifully
textured cowl, adorned with delicate beads
like glimmering shells among the sand.
This design was the result of many
moments falling into place. We recently
took a family trip to Destin, Florida, not
long after watching a documentary on
how pollution is plaguing our oceans
I decided to bring along a single skein yarn
(inspired by The Little Mermaid) and as I
stood with my feet in the in the crystal clear
water, I couldn’t help but dwell on the reality
of our oceans. There's a significant difference
between the media portrayal of our oceans and
the harsh reality of how things actually are.
Our oceans are in a state of turmoil, yet
it’s relatively unrecognized. Even as I
enjoyed the beach on our family vacation, I
found myself wondering how the haunting
scenes of pollution I'd seen only days
before could instead be the reality.
This is why I have partnered with 4TheSeas,
a nonprofit dedicated to raising awareness
of ocean conversation. Single-use plastics,
recovered from ocean water and beaches, are
collected and transformed into art installations.
4TheSeas was founded by a very impressive,
passionate young lady named Taylor
Bradley. Taylor, a 12 year-old living and
traveling with her family in Costa Rica, is
passionate about educating and hopefully
reversing the tragic state of our oceans.
4TheSeas raises awareness by creating art
installations made from single-use plastics
that have been pulled from the ocean.
All proceeds from Under The Sea pattern
sales will be donated to Taylor’s foundation,
4TheSeas in support of their beautiful mission.
