Description
Protect your hands with a set of potholders like these; from now on, holding any hot dishes will be easy and fun !
This pattern describes in US terminology how to crochet a set of whale potholders as shown in pictures, made using sport weight cotton yarn and crochet hook size C (2.5 mm). Schachenmayr/SMC Catania was used to create the potholders in the pictures. Finished size will be approx. 6.7" x 6.7" (17 x 17 cm) including the edges.
These adorable potholders have a whale depicted to their front sides, are made in 2 separate panels, worked in flat rows using tapestry technique, then joined together and finished with a pretty contrasting colored edging all around, including a hanging loop.
The potholders are double layered, making them sturdy and thick enough to hold all hot dishes.

Approx. Gauge: 10 sts x 10 rows: 1.57" x 1.57" (4 x 4 cm)
Stitches and techniques used: chain, slip stitch, single crochet, tapestry technique, blocking (optional)
Full color charts and written instructions are both included.
Materials used:
- crochet hook size C (2.5 mm)
- yarn, for 2 potholders: white (approx. 50 gr, 137 yds, 125 m), blue (approx. 15 gr, 42 yds, 38 m), dark yellow (approx. 10 gr, 28 yds, 25 m), small amount of black for embroidery
