Description
The holidays are upon us once again and in our home we celebrate each year by trying to bring some of our ancestors traditions into our seasonal decorations and celebrations. I made my first version of this Yule Goat a few years ago and finally got around to polishing him up and revamping him so he could be recreated by others who know and love him as much as I do.
This is my recreation of a Scandinavian holiday straw goat in crochet form. The Yule Goat or Julbock is also known by several other names. Links are provided in the pattern for more information of the tradition as well as information on the Gavle Goat.
Skill level: Intermediate
Gauge: 20 stitches x 21 rows in 4"
Yardage: 210 yards
Finished Measurement: 10" tall x 4.5" long
Materials list:
3.5 mm hook
Worsted/Aran/#4 weight yarn in Light Yellow and Red
Tapestry needle
Stitch marker
Scissors
Polyfill or other stuffing material
This is a amigurumi style pattern that is intended for decorative purposes.
This does not teach the absolute beginner how to crochet, you must know how to crochet in the round to be able to complete this project.
