The half pi shawl is the more wearable, quicker cousin of the famous pi shawl developed by the great knitting maven, Elizabeth Zimmermann. The idea behind it is to double your stitches every increase row and double your rows following each increase row.

This makes a top-down shawl that has big sections of knitting for you to work intricate lace patters across without having to worry about the stitch count changing!

I decided to write my own instructions for a garter stitch pi shawl as a blank canvas for you to add your own personal touches to! Or, by all means, knit this garter stitch half pi shawl as-is for a relaxing bit of tv knitting. It’s beginner friendly and easy.

You can use any yarn you’d like for this pattern, but I had one cake of Lion Brand’s Shawl-In-A-Cake and I wanted to see exactly how much shawl one cake would take me! So if you want a shawl that looks exactly like mine, grab one cake in the colorway Moonstone.
